We respect the rights of authors, and we expect everyone who contributes to LordOS to do the same. If you believe that something on lordos.org, in a LordOS release or in the LordOS repository infringes your copyright, tell us and we will look at it.
The law that applies#
LordOS is run from Argentina by iPERFEX (Pablo Miranda and Federico Pereira), and we handle these reports under Argentine law, mainly Law 11.723 on intellectual property. We are not a US service provider and we don't promise the procedures of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). The notice we ask for is similar to a DMCA notice, so you can use one you already have.
How to send a notice#
Write to us through our contact form with "Copyright" in the subject, and include:
- The work: what you believe is being infringed (for example a picture, a text, a font or a piece of code), and proof or a clear statement that you own it or act for the owner.
- The material: exactly what infringes it and where it is: the URL on lordos.org, the release and file name, or the path in the repository.
- Your contact details: your name, and an email address and country where we can reach you.
- Good faith: a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the owner, its representative or the law.
- Accuracy: a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them.
- Signature: your full name as an electronic signature.
Incomplete notices may take longer, because we will need to ask for the missing details.
What we do#
We review every complete notice. If the claim is credible, we may remove or disable the material, replace it, or add the missing attribution or license notice, often the quickest fix for open-source code. We tell the person who contributed the material, when we know who that is, and keep a record of the notice.
Counter-notice#
If material you contributed was removed and you believe that was a mistake (because you own it, have a license for it, or the use is allowed by law), send a counter-notice through the same form with "Copyright counter-notice" in the subject. Include what was removed and where it was, why you believe the removal was wrong, your contact details, a statement that the information is accurate, and your full name as a signature. We will share it with the person who sent the original notice and may restore the material unless they show us they have started legal action.
Repeat infringers and abuse#
We stop accepting contributions from people who repeatedly infringe others' rights. Sending a notice you know to be false can make you liable for damages; please don't use these procedures to silence criticism or legitimate uses.
Other platforms#
Material hosted by other services follows their rules. For content on GitHub, including the LordOS repository and its releases, you can also use GitHub's DMCA takedown policy. Debian packages are handled by Debian.
Disputes#
Disputes are governed by the laws of the Argentine Republic and handled by the competent courts of the Argentine Republic, as set out in the Terms of use.
